Ron's 10/75 John Goss Special
I first saw the ad in the Melbourne trading post via the net on the 22.07.02. The ad was as follows:
FORD FALCON JOHN GOSS SPECIAL 1975 Blue and white $2700
It went on to say little rust and I thought straight away can't be a Goss with little rust ..LOL
I contacted the chap who said he kept in the shed but now has to get rid of it as he split with the girl and she wants it out of her shed.
I received as much info as possible and ended up purchasing it sight unseen. The JGS arrived on the 27.07.02. It had been an ongoing project but was in bad need of a complete restore. (This car had a hard life) The rust was much more than expected as it had just been patched over the years.
The JGS arrived on a trailer it was lowered to the extreme had been painted in white. It looked like someone had painted it in the back yard at mum's with the eager beaver and with house paint.
I went straight to work to confirm it was a JGS straight away. All the ordinal paint was there underneath the layers of white paint even the pin strip was which had just been painted over. The car stood still from that point on.
I moved about 10 months later and nothing had been done to the JGS. So I then had to build a shed to house the beast so that took time and I now have started to strip it back to the shell.
I have removed all interior, wiring, dash, all brakes lines, and so forth ready to be sandblasted in side and out.
The motor was removed and was running as I drove with no doors, boot lid or bonnet to my new address to the distress of my new neighbors.
Once the motor was out it was easy to see it was an original with all numbers matching. I started to pull it down and soon discovered it was the first time it had be pulled down with all bearings reading STD and the original ford part numbers on them.
I discovered that the timing chain was chewed to bits and I still can't understand how it was even running in this condition (However that explains the flames that leaped from the 2 barrel carby).
Next was the rear end, which was FORD V8 2.92 LSD DIFF rear disc. Out it came with all suspension, shocks and so forth to be checked and renewed or replaced. The diff will be put back in without any calipers so the car can be moved at the panel beater for a complete sand blast inside and out.
